A commission to carve ‘The serene face of Christ’.
I chose Iroko for the olive colour of the wood, which is not an easy wood to carve, having a short, interlocking grain. But due to its brittle nature, I was able to produce the fragmented rock like surface, from which the face emerges, to create a stark contrast of textures and emotional ground.
