The font of Holy Innocents church in Hammersmith, London was repositioned following some major alterations. The commission was to design a cover to help create a sense of unity for the new arrangement.

The font now stands in front of an ‘arts and crafts’ stained glass window, which it was felt should not be obscured by the original high font cover.

The geometric design of the new cover, forms a natural progression of the font’s design, into which was carved motifs of scrolling foliage, that mirrored a design found in the stained glass beyond, thus giving a sense of artistic integrity within the two works of art.

The descending dove was portrayed in a simple symbolic form, with the lettering of the inscription continuing in the same style as that found in the window beyond.
