The font of Holy Innocents church in Hammersmith, London was repositioned following some major alterations. The commission was to design a cover to help create a unified sense of the new arrangement.
The font now stands in front of an ‘arts and crafts’ stained glass window, which it was felt should not be obscured by the original high font cover. The geometric design of the new cover, forms a natural extension of the font, into which was carved scrolling foliage that mirrored a design in the stained glass beyond.
The descending dove was portrayed in a simple symbolic form, with the lettering of the inscription continuing in the same style as that found in the window beyond.
