Commission to carve trailboards for Bessie Ellen.

Built in Plymouth by William Kelly in 1904. She is one of the last West Country trading ketches still sailing, and has under gone a total restoration by here current owner Nikki Alford.

In order to create a design that would have been typical for such a vessel, we looked at archive material from similar vessels of the period. Carved in English oak they provide decoration in keeping with a working vessel of her time.

Trail boards provide effective decoration for vessels of any size, from large imposing compositions, to the lightest touch of finesse. As such they are ideal for yachts where a figurehead would be ‘too much’ down to the very smallest of craft.
