The schooner Marion was built Borth-y-Gest Porthmadog in 1853 and wrecked Criccieth beach Tremadog Bay 29-9-1885.

The figurehead was saved by the ships master, and has been passed down through the family to its current owner who wished it to be restored to its former glory.
Over the years she had received damage to her nose, lips, hair and substantial damage to her shoulder. Her outstretched arm which would have been removable had been lost, but a relative of the family remembered that it held a bible.

The figure may well have been carved by Shon Edwards who was the resident ships carver at Porthmadog.
In repairing the figure the dovetailed joint that connected the arm, was restored and a new arm carved to replicate that lost, complete with bible

A record of any paint fragments that were from the earliest layers still on the figure was kept, to try and establish the original colour scheme. her fair complexion and rosy cheeks were certainly original.
