Before embarking on the creation of a figurehead, the carver would make a scale model known as a maquette.
This would give the client a good idea of how the figure would look in its three dimensional form, and be a useful guide for the carver.
For the replica ship Gotheborg, I carved the maquette in wood, from which a mould was taken in order to cast some copies in resin bronze.
Only 50 were made, making this limited edition very collectable.
A few are still for sale either as a pair as shown in the picture, at £400 or as a single figure for £230
