Commissions

As the web site suggests, the main focus of my work is maritime based, but am happy to consider other projects. In all events, after initial consultation with you, I endeavour to provide an accurate assessment of the costs before commencement of a project.

My workshop in England is based just south of Oxford. For projects in Scandinavia I have a permanent base near Goteborg in Sweden. If it is more practicable to work directly from your vessel or a specific yard either here or abroad this can also be arranged.

NEW COMMISSIONS

I am about to commence two new major commissions;

H.M.S. Arethusa

Launched Pembroke dock 1849. This magnificent figure was originally carved by the Hellyer family, and served in the Crimea. At the end of her active navy career, she became the training ship of the Shaftesbury homes based at Upnor. When the ship was broken up in 1934, the figurehead was removed as a shore exhibit at the home, where she has remained since that time. Rot to the central core of the figure, now threatens to destroy the outer carving. Maritima has been commissioned to carry out an extensive renovation of the figure to ensure the preservation of this important figure.        SEE PROGRESS IMAGES IN SECTION HEADED RESTORATION

La Fayette's ship L'Hermione

A replica of this famous French frigate of 1780 has been under construction at the historic dock of Rochefort for some years. The project has now reached the stage where rigging and ornamentation can commence, I am honoured to have been given the commission to carve the lion figurehead for the project.
