This figure is unusual in that it was carved from one solid piece of wood. The centre was then hollowed out to remove stress in the timber thus reducing movement.
What remained of the centre was completely rotten requiring renewal of the central core. Cracks to the face were closed with new timber put in the back of the head, other rot cut out and missing detail re-carved.
