About the Artist

Andy Peters

With a lifelong passion for all things connected with traditional sailing ships, Andy Peters founder of maritima woodcarving, has worked tirelessly to preserve the art of the ships carver.

A love for the subject and unceasing desire to produce work to match that of past masters has resulted him receiving commissions to restore major historical artefacts for museums and collectors, and gained him an international reputation for producing replica work of remarkable authenticity to a given period. As such, his services have been sought through out Europe and Scandinavia.

A simple nameboard cut using only traditional hand tools, receives the same amount of care and attention as a monumental sculpture. All work created by Maritima is carved entirely by hand in order to replicate the sense of movement and quality of touch inherent
in original pieces that may be restored, or replicated, bringing to life the fantastical and mythological elements which are so much a part of our shared maritime heritage.

The same philosophy is applied in the design of contemporary art forms that allow the art of the ships carver to produce work that expresses a vibrancy and passion relevant to the yachts of today.
