Zeta

Traditionally many small figures had the main body carved from one piece of wood with arms then added, rather than the more common method of laminating used on larger figures.

This small figure is carved in one piece from pear, fruit wood carves well, with pear giving a warm colour to the figure, which is shown here nearing completion. - progress pictures to follow ...

Zeta was the name of a Swansea Copper ore barque, built at Glasgow in 1865. Although too big a ship for this llittle figure, the name just seemed to suite her.

 

Zeta stands approx. two feet six inches tall and is for sale priced £4,500
