The schooner Flower of Caithness, lying at anchor in her home waters.

I made a pair of trail boards for her, which involved in producing a mould to match the shape of her bow, then steam bending and laminating in Brazilian mahogany to suite the double curve of her fine hull shape.

 

 

A more contemporary design to suite a modern yacht. Trail boards are a good way of introducing some decorations to smaller vessels, where a figurehead would be too much. They are also less prone to damage from anchors.

Trailboards for the west country trading ketch Bessie Ellen The boat was built in Plymouth by William Kelly in 1904 and restored by Nikki Alford who now charters the vessel.
