Gunilla

Built on the east cost of Sweden in 1939, she was converted to a motor ship in the 1950's. In 1997 she was bought by MBV and has been restored to sail as a school ship.
Over the winter of 1998/9, working in Sweden with my colleague Ingemar Johansson a new figure was carved, taking measurements and drawings from the original, which is now in the maritime museum in Oakarshamn. The figure nearing completion.
She is carved from Swedish pine, and laminated, in the same manner as the original.
She patiently waits, looking very feminine, and vulnerable to meet the ship whose bow she will adorn
Dressed in her fine colours she now looks at home with her ship, and ready to explore the world.
